The deal pays for monitoring, not the business

Every deal closed through Mazaoverse budgets for monitoring. That budget pays for the Harvest subscription and, if the business wants one, a Relationship Manager who does the reporting work in Check In.

A three-way exchange

Business

Gets funded and stays on the Harvest tier (KES 15,000/month), paid from the deal's M&E budget. It can do its own monitoring in Check In, or let an RM do it so it can focus on running the business.

Expert RM

Paid a monthly retainer from the M&E allocation. Prepares quarterly reports, tracks milestones and flags problems early, all inside Check In.

Investor

Receives standardised, Harvest Index–tracked quarterly reports and early warnings, with no chasing and no inconsistent formats.

What it costs

Per funded business. Both totals fit inside the usual 2–5% monitoring allocation.

Tier 1 · Basic M&E

  • Quarterly reports, milestone tracking, alerts
  • About 6–10 hours a month per business
  • An RM can manage 8–12 businesses at once

Tier 2 · Capacity building

  • Everything in Tier 1, plus governance, finance and operations coaching
  • About 15–25 hours a month per business
  • An RM can manage 4–6 businesses at once

The standard monitoring clause

As a condition of funding, the business stays on the Mazaoverse Harvest tier for the monitoring period and reports through Check In. Monitoring costs, including any Relationship Manager retainer, are paid from the M&E allocation in this agreement.

Mazaoverse drafts this as part of the deal structuring it already provides.

How the money moves

  1. The deal closes and the investor sends the funding to the business.
  2. The M&E allocation is ring-fenced inside the deal.
  3. The monthly Harvest subscription and RM retainer are paid from that allocation.
  4. The RM reports every quarter through Check In, and the investor reads them in the investor view.
